So, I'm back home again. It's good to be home, but I think I might prefer Tanzania. But when I was in Tanzania I wanted to go home, so I'm not sure. The grass is always greener on the other side, or something, right?
Had some great weeks in Arusha and Zanzibar. Thea and I went camelriding, held snakes, went canoeing in Arusha NP, went swimming at Thea's fancy hotel, and had lots of good food and spent time with a lot of friends. At Zanzibar we did a lot of souvenirshopping, and stayed six days at the beach (Kendwa). Very humid there, but somehow we survived. Vivian and I also survived the flight back to Arusha, that I wrote about a week ago... And then I had some good last days in Arusha, I even went to a 5year olds birthday party. And then a new airport, and new stupid systems.
The flight back home was COLD. Didn't get any better when I got home. The coldest day of the year so far, and Julie in sandals. Yay! More plane-drama when we were going to land in Trondheim. The pilot circled around town for 35 minutes. The first time I thought he was just showing people the town. The second time I started wondering if he knew where the airport was. The third time I took up my book and continued reading. After those 35 minutes the pilot told us that we had a small problem, something about the wings that you need when you're landing, that didn't work. And that the landing might be a bit uncomfortable, as we would have to land at a pretty high speed. Which is not really what you want to hear when you've been flying for 15 hours, and you can see your house. So I kinda freaked out. And then I was completely calm, thinking it would probably be fine. Then we landed, and I saw two firetrucks. Four. Six. Seven. Eight. Damn, I didn't even know they had that many firetrucks in the airport area. So I kinda freaked out again, but by then we had already stopped, so hamna shida.
Thursday night my very kind mommy had arranged a dinner with most of my family and friends, which was nice, even though I fell asleep in the end..
Friday I went to visit my grandmother at the hospital, and friday night they stopped treating her. So, early sunday morning she died. Pretty sad, but when we were already waiting for her to die, and she's kinda been "gone" since mid-november, it was also a good thing.
Now I'm sitting in my fathers new house, with my big crazy puppy, who wants to be cuddled. Still pretty cold outside, and I think I look like an eskimo whenever I go out of the house, but I'm starting to get used to it. Other than that I'm struggling with the righthandside-everything. I get in at the wrong side of the car, I have no idea what side cars come from, or where I'm supposed to drive. I also collide with people when I'm out walking. Hopefully I'll get used to that again too.
I miss everybody. Some I miss alot. Wish you could be here.
Julie
